Almost a year ago to the day, I submitted a video to become the Murphy-Goode Wine corespondent. I set-up an Facebook fan page called “Help Daniela Get a Really Goode Job” and invited all my friends and family to go and vote for me. To my surprise hundreds of people voted for me and I placed in the Top 50 out of 2000 candidates nationwide. I did not get the final position but I did walk away amazed at the support and the power that was harnessed through yet another social media outreach campaign. In my mind this was a victory.
For the last year I have continued my work freelancing with SocialSkoop while simultaneously continuing my job hunt for a company that would appreciate my skills in social media marketing. I can finally announce that I am the new addition to team Symbaloo. I am a Community Manager which means I will be helping to spread brand awareness, educate new communities and help existing communities use the site.

I have already created my first “Webmix,” (a collection of bookmarks) of all my favorite social sites & tools. I see so much potential for this company as it is already a leading social tool in Holland. I encourage everyone to try out this new tool and share your thoughts.
Lastly, I have two pieces of advice for the many other graduates looking for work:
1) Apply for every opportunity that fits your criteria or sounds interesting. Some of the best advice I got while looking for work was to get as many interviews and sell myself as much as possible, after a while it becomes natural, you won’t be nervous and the tables will be turned…you will be interviewing them.
2) Do not under value yourself. This can be the hardest advice to follow because after time passes and still no call backs your self worth can take a turn for the worst. I could have easily gone and taken a serving job at a restaurant and settled but I took this time as an opportunity to find the right place for myself in order to establish a career. I’m not saying this is what I will want to be doing forever but for right now this is my dream job.
